About Us:
Washington Union’s Freshman Academy was created with one general goal in mind: To increase the academic success rate of ninth graders here at WUHS.
Statistics have revealed that the freshman year is a critical one, which can significantly influence a student’s chances for success in grades ten through twelve. In addition, data has shown that throughout the United States a significant number (50 %) of ninth graders are not completing high school.
Researched studies have additionally confirmed that smaller schools (academies) are more productive because students feel less alienated, more nurtured, and connected to caring adults. In addition, teachers thrive in the academy setting because there is an increased opportunity to build relationships and support students. Therefore, in an effort to better serve the academic needs of all students enrolling at Washington Union as ninth graders, the Freshman Academy was created.
